Cabin owners with above-ground swimming pools should immediately check their pool models, as Health Canada has issued a nationwide recall affecting over 266,000 units from three popular manufacturers.

The July 21 recall covers select Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup above-ground pools that are 48 inches (122 cm) or taller featuring compression straps running along the outside and over vertical support legs.
The Safety Hazard
The compression straps that encircle the pool's exterior legs can create dangerous footholds, allowing young children to climb into pools unattended. This design flaw has been linked to tragic consequences south of the border, where nine children between 22 months and 3 years old have drowned after using these straps to access pools between 2007 and 2022.

While no incidents have been reported in Canada as of July 17, 2025, the recall serves as a critical prevention measure for families enjoying summer at their cabins and cottages.
Affected Models

The recall includes:
- Bestway models (sold 2008-2024): Outbound, Coleman Power Steel, Power Steel, and Steel Pro
- Intex models (sold 2003-2012): Metal Frame Pools and Ultra Frame Pools
- Polygroup models (sold 2006-2025): Funsicle, Summer Waves, and Summer Escapes
Steel Pro | Ultra Frame Pools | Summer Escapes (2006-2015) |
Power Steel | Metal Frame Pools | Summer Waves (2015-2025) |
Coleman Power Steel | Funsicle (2023-2025) | |
Outbound (2015-2025) |
Pool brand names and model numbers are typically printed on the pool liner's exterior.
