Canada Strong Pass Expands to Include 86 Provincial and Territorial Museums

The Canada Strong Pass has just become even more valuable for Canadian families exploring the country this summer. The Department of Canadian Heritage announced Thursday that 86 provincial and territorial museums and galleries have joined the program, offering the same benefits already available at national museums.

The expansion means children aged 17 and under can now enjoy free admission at participating provincial and territorial institutions, while young adults aged 18 to 24 receive a 50 percent discount on entry fees. The benefits are available immediately and run through September 2, 2025.

"Museums are where stories are told, art is preserved, and traditions live on," said Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, in a news release.

"They help shape our understanding of history and culture."

The timing couldn't be better for families planning summer road trips or weekend getaways. Whether you're heading to the cabin or exploring a new region, these cultural institutions offer perfect stops along the way – now without the added expense.

Like other Canada Strong Pass benefits, no registration or physical pass is required. Visitors simply show up at participating locations to receive the discounts automatically. The complete list of participating museums and galleries is available on the Canada Strong Pass website.

The expansion builds on the program's existing offerings, which include free admission to all Parks Canada sites, discounted camping fees, reduced VIA Rail fares for youth, and free entry to all national museums. According to Canadian Heritage, more than 700,000 people had already visited the Canada Strong Pass website by the end of June to learn about available benefits.

For cabin owners and outdoor enthusiasts who often travel with children or grandchildren, the expanded museum access provides indoor alternatives for rainy days or educational opportunities to complement outdoor adventures. Many provincial museums feature exhibits on local history, Indigenous culture, and natural heritage that can enhance appreciation of the surrounding landscape.

The Canada Strong Pass continues through Labour Day weekend, ending September 2, 2025. With peak summer travel season now underway, the addition of provincial and territorial museums makes the program an even more compelling reason to explore Canada close to home.
